Appropriate textbook for middle school or low-level high school only

This is a good, well-written textbook with a lot of great illustrations and diagrams. However, the book is written on a very basic level, and only provides a very superficial coverage to current environmental science topics. I would not recommend this textbook for upper-level high school students. For teachers, this textbook also includes a resource CD with Powerpoints, tests, quizzes, and other worksheets.

This Teacher's Edition is a better resource than the current text I am forced to use. My students love the readability factor, clarified graphics, and included case studies which we use for discussion, closure, and kick-off activities.

Great text for high school environmental science course

Well done. Logical layout. Beautiful pictures. Mostly balanced as to political views of the subject. Is not rabidly against man's existence on the planet, thankfully. Very enjoyable reading. Expensive, but the nice binding means it could last for several years and usages.

This textbook was poorly laid out- The information itself was good, but the presentation was very choppy. The use of scenarios to illustrate specific points would have been far more effective if the author had not chosen to use the same four names obsessively in each and every one, which made them all run together and made them harder to remember. Also, it would have been far more effective to have the correct answer to the scenario actually follow the question portion, instead of cramming them all at the end of the chapter, so that one was constantly having to flip back and forth. That was a major annoyance, especially with the e-book version.

Basic Labor and Employment Law

As a paralegal student currently taking a college course using this book I find it to be very informative with the following exception. There is very little discussion regarding labor and employment law in the federal and state sectors. Since the percentage of people employed in government agencies is very large compared to most other types of industries the absense of discussion of employment law in these sectors leaves out a very large portion of people.

I found the numerous examples to be very effective in getting the point across, but having to turn to the back of the chapter to get the rest of the story was very annoying and hindered my ability to learn these things.

I also had hoped that there would be illustrations and more actual real life examples of situations that had occurred to illustrate the point. However, the few examples of cases that had been adjudicated were quite interesting.

Employment law is much more complicated than I had previously believed. Other books that I had read on the subject were dry and uninteresting, but this one was not because of how the law was shown to work through the examples. Having an understanding of the legal issues involved in working for a living should be mandatory for everyone. Unfortunately we often are not satisfactorily informed which leads to a lot of people being mistreated and fills the employment lines with the discouraged.

Both For Those Already Blessed With Good Luck And/Or Those Who Want To Simply Increase Their Luck

I preface this book review by admitting that I already consider myself a woman naturally blessed with good luck. However, I still purchase books pertaining to good luck due to my spiritual thirst to increase knowledge around making the best of life. Additionally, I admit to doing some off the wall and/or unconventional things to improve my life. For instance, less than 8 weeks ago, I decided to let go of reading my own horoscopes as a subconscious way to reinforce the idea that I’m in charge of my destiny and that things are only getting better in my life. However, I allow myself to look at other horoscopes as ideas for my goal setting, spiritual aspirations, life advice ideas etc. I purchased and use the ideas in How To Attract Good Luck And Make The Most Of It In Your Daily Life by A.H.Z. Carr with a similar mindset, concepts and insights for enriching my life and adding to my knowledge/wisdom goals. Generosity and Luck (starts on page 49), Turning points (starts on page 77), the intuitive approach to luck (starts on page 185), and how increased energy produces luck (starts on page 215) are some of the subject arena covered in the How To Attract Luck book. The back part of the book jacket lists A.H.Z. Carr as having lived from 1902-1971. A very important book

Cultivating good luck has more to do with faith, confidence, intuition, generosity and integrity than anything else. Seeking out and making the best out of every opportunity, and shunning laziness and envy, is what increases your luck. A very important book, that should be read to children all over the country.

One out of many things that struck me were instances in my own life - that pointed to the fact that the reason why I hadn't excelled in work positions in the past - was not only because I had no passion - but because I didn't feel I had the integrity to at the very least do a more than passable job. I was happy getting a C, when a little more effort would have made me a star. Attracting Good Luck means that you are diligent in mastering the opportunities given - so that you can continue to grow and be promoted. It's not chance, or even luck - excellence attracts excellence.

During their time, Timothy and Phillip struggle to work together, partly due to Phillip's racial prejudices. In the end, the two must learn to work together in the hopes of survival and eventual rescue. The Cay is a gripping story of survival and overcoming prejudices. Waited over ten years for this book for it to be so repetitive . It was the same rollercoaster ride for the whole book and then ends on a cliff hanger . I wouldn't be so upset if the book was cheaper 10.00 for recycled information no growth as characters .

Not what I expected

I like Keisha Ervin and that's why I couldn't bring myself to give this book one star. The book was too repetitive with no growth from any of the characters. No details on the supporting characters, and I could have sworn Brooke was the one that ended up with Jaylen in the first book. Maybe I need to re-visit. This book just wasn't what I expected it to be.

This book was a waste of $10, there was no growth in these characters at all and it was about 3,000 pages of a grown 30 year old woman being dumb as hell. Like seriously what was the purpose of even writing this book?? I love Keisha but this was a total disappointment

About the Author
Ronald Munson is Professor of Philosophy of Science and Medicine at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and a nationally acclaimed bioethicist. After receiving his Ph.D. from Columbia University, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Biology at Harvard University and a Visiting Fellow at the Harvard Medical School. Munson has served as a bioethicist for the National Eye Institute and the National Cancer Institute, as an editor for the AMERICAN JOURANAL OF SURGERY, and as a member of the Washington University Human Studies Committee. Munson's other books include RAISING THE DEAD: ORGAN TRANSPLANTS, ETHICS, AND SOCIETY, THE WOMAN WHO DECIDED TO DIE: CHALLENGES AND CHOICES AT THE EDGES OF MEDICINE, REASONING IN MEDICINE, and ELEMENTS OF REASONING, 7e (with Andrew Black). He is also the author of the novels NOTHING HUMAN, FAN MAIL, NIGHT VISION, and THE HARVARD GAME.

Is there a proofreader in the house?

First the good news. Ronald Munson's "Intervention and Reflection: Basic Issues in Bioethics" is about as complete an anthology in the field of bioethics as one is going to find. There is no major topic in the field that it fails to cover in depth, both through Munson's own extensive commentary and through the many articles he chooses from other authors. I have used it as the text in bioethics courses I have taught and both the students and I have found it quite helpful.

However, its lack of basic proofreading is inexcusable in a text published by Wadsworth, an otherwise reputable publisher of academic material. On page after page one finds errors that would have been caught through a cursory reading. A few of the more egregious examples: On page 49 a patient introduced as Prosenjit Boddar becomes "Foddar" five lines down and "Poddar" at the beginning of the next paragraph. On page 124 "Paul Geisinger" turns into "Raul" at the conclusion of the same paragraph in which he is called "Paul." In the following paragraph we read of viral particles that are destroyed "within a month to sue weeks." (What are sue weeks?) On page 143 the text speaks of "abstract more issues" (instead of "moral issues," I guess). These examples of sloppy (or perhaps no) proofreading are multiplied many times over in the 900 plus pages of the book.

One expects far more than this for the outrageous price this book commands. Certainly the $150.00 plus price tag per copy leaves some spare change for Wadsworth to hire a competent copy editor. Ronald Munson, who gives every indication from his writings of being a knowledgeable bioethicist, should be embarrassed that a book with such sloppy editing has come out under his name.

It is appalling how many typographical errors this book contains! It is absolutely sloppy. For instance, I am currently reading about that oh-so-famous book by Aldous Huxley "The Brace New World"! There is also that infamous medical experiment in Tuskegee committed against African "Ameircans". This is supposed to be an educational text about ethics. How ethical is it to charge this kind of money for a book the publishers couldn't even be bothered to run a spell-check program on?

So many typographical and spelling errors.....

I would have given this book at least 4 stars, if not for the many typographical and spelling errors. The editors did a terrible job reviewing this. There are so many errors it results in very frustrated reading at times. The content of this book overall isn't bad and is quite interesting. But the abundance of errors really distracts from the overall content.
