From Booklist
Maruska and Perry team up to help readers use their brains and talent at a time when most U.S. workers are simply not engaged. As most human-resources gurus will emphasize, careers are of your own making, which is exactly what the authors intend to teach (and, along the way, sell more than a few of their courses). The process itself is based on a Socratic dialogue, well scripted and framed, covering ephemeral hopes and fears as well as very practical actions. The three steps—power up your talent story, accelerate through obstacles, and multiply the payoffs for yourself and others—represent a good approach. The real issue will be identifying a talent catalyst who has these characteristics: a willing partner who asks open-ended questions, a generous listener, among others. No stumbling here: scripts and summaries and prescriptive steps are well documented. The narrative is a bit turgid, but that seems suitable for this subject. --Barbara Jacobs

Simple, effective and easy!
By Amazon Customer
As a busy corporate / executive coach I am always looking for tools and techniques to simplify my work and add even more value to my customers. Take Charge of your talent provides a series of simple structured coaching conversations that are set over three core areas or "keys":

Key #1. Power Up Your Talent Story -- This is the initial Talent Catalyst Conversation that really stimulates coaching clients to open up to new possibilities and engages their self-motivation.

Key #2. Accelerate through Obstacles -- This part of the coaching process helps clients break through the external and self imposed road blocks. It supports translating intentions into real actions and provides proven productivity tools to enable growth as well as nurture the inner qualities that all clients possess.

Key #3. Multiply the Payoffs for Yourself and Others -- This supports clients going beyond the current and consider their longer term goals and needs, Core to this is the idea of developing assets that are concrete and transferable and at the same time ensuring that clients talents are joy for them-self and that this empowers them to create a contribution to the greater world.

The book is jam packed full of anecdotes, quotes, stories and more importantly for me practical tools that allow me to help my clients to achieve their goals.

As a Professional Certified Coach, who has gone through hundreds of hours of training, I was not sure if such a "simple" process could have such huge impact. Coaching does not have to be complex and this book and its process show that. Pick it up, read it and apply it to friends and colleagues.

Jay and Don have created a clear, simple and powerful system that can be replicated by all interested in getting the best out of themselves and others!

Less is beautiful
By Tuncel Gulsoy
Jay and Don have created a remarkable tool for millions of people who are waiting for inspiration to start moving towards their dreams. In my own words I will like to call it teaching somebody how to fish rather than giving him or her fish to eat. Here too the size does not matter, function counts. The book is small in size but like the nuclear power to be freed in an atom it is loaded with wisdom, experience and energy. This is the wisdom, experience and energy of two great coaches who are teaming up for creating something greater than their individual self achievements. Unlike many similar books which you read over and over but nothing changes in your life this little gem truly works. You may help yourself or any person who is willing to team up with you. Further it is a two way process, the person you are helping will also be your helping partner. The book is a beautiful example of the phrase: Less is beautiful. You may also add to these words; life and coaching do not necessarily have to be messy and complicated.
