About the Author
John P. Fennimore has followed a broad and robust career path that includes engineering, military duty, seamanship, commercial property management, and education. He found many similarities between military duty, ship management, and facility management. All of his experiences culminated in the writing of this textbook.

John began his professional career after receiving a bachelor of engineering degree in marine engineering from SUNY Maritime College, followed by a commission as ensign in the USNR. Subsequently, John worked for several years as chief engineering officer aboard commercial ships plying the Great Lakes. During the height of the cold war, he provided his marine engineering expertise to the U.S. government by traveling overseas to manage the in-port maintenance work aboard high technology, submarine surveillance vessels.�

Returning home, John then became director of facilities at Ramapo State College of New Jersey and later at Alverno College in Wisconsin. Opportunity for personal development presented itself again in the form of commercial property management.� John took on the task of managing the facility operation of a portfolio of high-rise office, shopping centers, and industrial properties for the RREEF Funds. Seeking continued professional and personal growth, John obtained a state license as professional engineer and finally a master’s degree in facility management from Leeds Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom. These achievements led to positions as a facilities engineering consultant in the field and also as a lecturer at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Today, the author instructs a program of facilities maintenance technology at Waukesha County Technical College.

A must read for facilities managers!

This book contains a tremendous amount of valuable information for the facility manager looking to become a master of their craft or for the aspiring facilities management student such as myself. The topics covered in this book run the gamut from tried and true operational and management practices, the latest in green/sustainable technologies, financial analysis, to case studies where this technology is being successfully used today. The author conveys all of this information, which is taken from his extensive background, in a flowing, easy to read text. I will, without a doubt, utilize this text as a reference as I begin my facilities management career, you should too! Great read!

Excellent Facilities and Sustainability match

The terminologies and presentation of information is directed towards a Facility Manager and easy to comprehend. If you are currently in the field and want to learn how your operations relate to sustainability this is the book for you. If you have aspirations to get into the field this is the information you will be dealing with and need to know. The author takes real world experience and knowledge and relates it to directly facility operations. I enjoyed the book and was able to relate my knowledge with each section.

This book was so technical it was hard to follow ...

This book was so technical it was hard to follow. I am not majoring in engineering or in facility management, it's just one class required for my degree. I found that many of our assignments did not come from the textbook and we were just required to read from it.
